sun safety tips
The sun is both friend and foe; without it life could not exist, but over-exposure could cause serious health risks.
It is recommended that you spend at least 15 minutes a day outdoors to reap the benefits of sunlight. Sunlight aids the body in producing vitamin D, strengthens the immune system and has been shown to help overcome depression.

Below you will find tips for protecting yourself from the sun while enjoying its benefits.
- Apply sunscreen about 20 minutes before you go outdoors. Make sure you apply a liberal amount.
- Always use a sunscreen that provides broad spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB sunrays. It must contain Zinc Oxide or Avobenzone, to provide that protection. All Solar Sense sunscreens contain Zinc Oxide for Advanced Sun Protection.
- Check the SPF level to be sure you are adequately protected. The fairer you are or the longer you plan on being outdoors, the more SPF protection you will need. All Solar Sense sunscreens provide SPF 45 protection.
- Be sure to apply sunscreen to hidden and hard to reach areas such as ears, neck, shoulders and around the hairline. Solar Sense® Clear Zinc Stick is perfect to get to those places.
- Don't just think of sunscreen when you swim or go to the beach. Sunscreen should be used during any activity including exercising, playing, gardening, golfing, even just taking a walk.
- The sun's rays are strongest from 10am to 4pm. Be extra sure to use plenty of sunscreen during these times.
- Other sun protection strategies include staying in the shade, covering-up with clothes and hats, and planning outdoor activities to avoid peak sun hours.
- While the sun is strongest during the summertime, you will still be exposed to the sun's rays in spring, fall and winter. Use sunscreen year-round, whenever you are going outdoors.
- Be extra careful with children. Damage from sun exposure is cumulative over their whole lifetime.
- Don't forget to pack the sunscreen when you go on vacation! You're bound to be outdoors and buying a good sunscreen may not always be easy.
